1/11/13 Cellular Imaging Workshop

Friday, January 11th, 2013 – 9:00AM-5:00PM

Salk Institute, Frederic de Hoffmann Auditorium

Host

San Diego Center for Systems Biology (SDCSB)

Description

The goal of the SDCSB Cellular Imaging workshop is to educate participants about the state of the cutting-edge cellular imaging and how it’s toolbox of technologies can be employed to dissect the dynamic nature of complex biological systems. For example, to understand embryogenesis, cellular communication, genome regulation and signaling, an integrated approach to imaging using technologies that facilitate observation over many different length and time scales is essential.

The workshop will showcase local and national expertise in the development and application of new imaging technologies and analyses and how they can be used to reveal unprecedented insights into the molecular structure and function of dynamic cellular systems in whole organisms and individual cells.  Lectures will cover multi-modal approaches to imaging, correlative light and electron microscopy, targeted imaging probes, bioengineering approaches to imaging and high-content methodologies for screening large populations of cells and small-molecule targets. At the end of the workshop, we will host a panel discussion and interactive brainstorming session. The goal of the panel is to stimulate discussion and foster collaborative interactions between participating scientists working across multiple disciplines to address critical challenges in contemporary biomedical research.
