Description

Due to the recent patent reform act, the USPTO rule for filing patent applications has changed from “First to Invent” to “First to file”. This means the patent will be issued to an inventor who filed first, even if someone else had already invented first. Therefore it has become important to know if there is any Prior Art out there when deciding to file a patent application. This workshop will bring together experts in the area of Patent Law and Patent Searches who will discuss these topics and provide hands-on demonstration on how to do patent searches yourself. There will be questions and answers after each talk to discuss each topic in depth.

–       Supreme Court Ruling on Naturally Occurring DNA Sequences and Implications to the Research Community and Industry.  Dr. Scott Miller, IP Counsel Leader, Life Technologies. Presentation

–      Recent Treatment of the question of obviousness by the Federal Court in the light of KSR decision. Boris Zelkind, Partner, Knobbe Martens. Presentation

–       Licensing in the “Post Reform Act Era”.  Dr. Elie Gendloff, Gendloff Consulting. Presentation
