6/20-21/2013 RNA-Seq Analysis Workshop

Best Practices Workshop – RNA-Seq Analysis Workshop

June 20 and 21, 2013

Sanford Consortium Auditorium

2880 Torrey Pines Scenic Drive, La Jolla, Ca 92037

Description

The workshops will focus on introducing researchers to the principles behind RNA-Seq analysis and will provide a hands-on introduction to software and analysis pipelines for RNA-Seq.  Two workshops will be held for two different intended audiences.  Participants can only register for one of the two workshops.

1. The Galaxy tutorial workshop will be for participants who have little or no computational background.  These are typically biologists who are interested in higher-level concepts and basic tools.  This will involve a walk-through of web-based RNA-Seq analysis using Galaxy.

2. The Unix tutorial workshop is aimed at bioinformaticians and statisticians who may be responsible for setting up and running the computational pipelines that take the raw data all the way through the high level analysis.  We will focus on advanced analysis using a UNIX command line environment to run open-source RNA-Seq software. Participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of the UNIX environment and a basic understanding of statistical methods.  The first hour will be spent reviewing the relevant UNIX concepts.
